Colmac Coil Secures Contract for Dubai Airport Expansion

Details

May 9, 2011

COLVILLE, WASH. – Colmac Coil Manufacturing, Inc. has been selected for the continued expansion of one of the busiest international airports - the Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. The project entails the construction of fresh air cooling coils for the newly constructed Concourse 3.

The project is an important part of Dubai’s strategic development plan to modernize and expand the Dubai International Airport. Concourse 3 is scheduled to be completed by 2012.

"In 2007, Colmac Coil was selected to provide the custom cooling coils for the fresh air cooling system for Concourse 2," said Bruce Nelson, Colmac Coil President.

The high temperatures and humidity in the Gulf region make cooling sufficient amounts of fresh air for the airport a challenge. Colmac Coil completed the cooling coils for Concourse 2 on time and the system was successfully commissioned in 2008.

"Based on the success of the design and execution of the Concourse 2 coils, Colmac Coil was selected to provide the fresh air cooling coils for the next phase of the airport expansion, Concourse 3," Nelson said.

Colmac Coil will provide 34 extra-large custom-designed chilled water cooling coils for the four fresh air cooling plant rooms.

According to BNC Network, a Middle East construction database, the overall project includes a 250 room hotel, five underground floors, and 12,000 square meters of retail space.

Once the current expansion is completed, it is estimated that the airport will have capacity to accommodate 70 million passengers by the year 2016 and as many as 100 million passengers a year by 2025, which will make it one of the world’s largest and busiest airports.
