Colmac Coil Complies With the Buy American Act

Dec. 28, 2011

COLVILLE, Wash. – Did you know that Colmac Coil complies with the Buy American Act? In fact, Colmac Coil has been complying since the 1980's with coils made for the United States Navy.

"We can manufacture custom products that comply with the Buy American Act at our two manufacturing facilities in Colville, Washington and Paxton, Illinois," said Jeremy Olberding, Sales Manager.

According to the Congressional Research Service, The Buy American Act was enacted in 1933 in an effort to promote domestic preferences for government purchases. As an incentive, the Act provides funding for projects that comply.

The Act defines what qualifies as American products based on articles, supplies and materials. Under the Act, all products must be produced in the U.S., and manufactured items must be manufactured in the U.S. from U.S. materials.

For Colmac Coil, this means that the cost of the aforementioned U.S. components manufactured must exceed 50 percent of the cost of all components of the product, and the product must be manufactured in the U.S.

"We can comply with the Buy American Act. We have the ability to source our materials, articles, and supplies through American supply chains," said Randy Carstens, Heat Transfer Products Manager.

Colmac Coil recently finished a Buy American Act project for a large deep shaft mine in Idaho. Colmac Coil manufactured 12 very specialized high pressure chilled water coils for the mine.

"Previously, this type of coil was only available as a packaged product from a supplier in South Africa," said Norm Ogden, Colmac Coil Sales Representative, "Our customer wanted to purchase from an American supplier and invited Colmac Coil to participate in the supplier bidder process. We made the best offer and shipped the coils the last week in November."

Ogden also provided coils for a large hydroelectric dam on the Columbia River which also were required to comply with the Buy American Act.

"These projects show that Colmac Coil is competitive in an important American supplier market," said Ogden.
