Colmac Coil Manufacturing Colmac Coil Manufacturing has once again taken the lead with the announcement that it will immediately begin offering state-of-the-art energy efficient fan motors as a standard feature on its ICH line of industrial refrigeration air coolers. Colmac has always offered high quality, severe duty (1.15 Service Factor), TEFC, three phase fan motors on its APC, and more recently, ICH line of air coolers. The new motors will not only retain these important features, but in addition, will have higher operating efficiencies and VSD (Variable Speed Drive) capability as a standard. The Federal Energy Policy Act (EPACT) has required that motor manufacturers meet federally mandated efficiencies on general purpose motors in ratings from 1 – 200 Hp. The new efficiencies are shown below:

All standard fan motors used in Colmac ICH coolers now meet or exceed these new efficiency requirements.

The use of Variable Speed Drives (VSD’s) on industrial refrigeration equipment is becoming increasingly popular as a means of dramatically reducing energy usage. In addition to operating at increased full-load efficiencies, standard fan motors offered on Colmac ICH coolers are now fully capable of operating with VSD’s. This capability is made possible by specification and use of special Inverter Spike Resistant (ISR) wire, and added insulation between phase windings in the new motors.
