Energy conservation has been identified as a key component of our collective global effort to reduce society’s dependence on fossil fuels. Your building exhaust represents a significant opportunity to conserve energy, especially if your building has a large fresh air requirement (hospital, casino, school, etc). Colmac heat pipe coils can be used either in your new building design or, in many cases, retrofitted to your existing building to capture and reuse valuable energy that is otherwise being thrown away.
Colmac heat pipes are simple and efficient! There are no moving parts to wear out or replace. The Colmac heat pipe is a passive device that quietly and efficiently transfers heat between your building exhaust and supply airstreams. In the summertime when supply air temperatures are high and air-conditioned cool air is being exhausted, the refrigerant in the heat pipe absorbs heat from the supply airstream – effectively pre-cooling it and reducing your building air-conditioning load - and transfers this heat into the exhaust. In the wintertime this process is reversed and supply air is pre-heated – reducing your building heating load. Typically, 65 to 75% of the energy in your building exhaust can be cost effectively recovered and reused. Very attractive payback periods and return on investment are possible in most locations. See the newly published Colmac Heat Pipe Application Flyer, and Heat Pipe Product Specification for details.
